CSR

Concern Beyond Cars

Indus Motor Company aims to demonstrate responsible corporate conduct throughout the entire spectrum of its activities and operations. Under our slogan of “Concern Beyond Cars”, we strive to make meaningful contributions to improve the health and living standards of all our fellow citizens, above and beyond providing them with high quality and safe products.

As a respected Corporate Citizen and a member of the UN Global Compact, we will continue to undertake social initiatives that help strengthen communities and contribute to the betterment of society. As a policy, Indus Motor Company allocates 1% of Profit Before Tax of preceding year for social contributions. During the last five years, we have contributed around Rs. 250 million towards Health, Education, Environment, Community Welfare and Road Safety projects.

IMC recognizes the fulfillment of our Corporate Social Responsibility, a multidimensional concept, as the source of sustained and long-term growth. We consider CSR as a strategic tool, rather an obligation, for sustainable social vitality. Accordingly, we practice socially responsible management in order to grow and share with our employees, partner companies, shareholders, customers, as well as the communities where we operate.

EDUCATION

TRANSFORMING LIVES THROUGH LEARNING

At IMC, we believe that it is our youth which will steward the country towards a brighter future and it is them we need to invest in.

This strong belief has allowed us to commit resources towards upliftment of education in our country, especially to those for whom education is unaffordable. Over the years, IMC has provided benefits to over 30 educational institutions and helped educational activities in general by building schools and by launching scholarships for meritorious students. Launched in 2005-06, the Company has provided merit scholarships to around 2,300 engineering students. Apart from this, IMC also provides regular financial assistance to a number of educational institutions, ranging from garage schools to postgraduate universities.

The primary objective is to provide education to underprivileged and disadvantaged students, so as to provide youth and young adults with the competencies needed to shape and work towards a sustainable future. We believe that providing such opportunities to deserving and needy students can help eradicate poverty at the grass root levels

ENVIRONMENT

PROTECTING THE SOUL OF LIFE

The Indus Motor Company strives for sustainable growth through technologies and practices that enable the environment and economy to coexist in harmony. We believe that careless pursuit of economic development destroys the environment and lowers the quality of life for future generations.

Our environmental commitment is manifested not just in the wordings of our policies, but is reflected strongly in our actions. We are at the forefront of activities that preserve and improve our environment, building close and cooperative relationships with individuals and organizations involved in environmental preservation. We are also continuously improving the company’s own environment management system and identifying activities that have a negative impact. IMC is an ISO 14001 and 9002 certified company.

The company’s initiatives in the sector include a wastewater treatment plant that has been installed with an investment of Rs. 50 million, to recycle water used for plantation. The company has installed the environment friendly Co-generation Power Plant which will help in reduction of carbon dioxide emissions through the use of natural gas to operate engines and turbines. The company has also installed a Thinner Recycling Machine, costing Rs. 2.5 million, to recycle the waste thinner in its manufacturing process. In Ozone Protection, IMC was the first automobile company in Pakistan to commence use of environment-friendly gas R-134a in car air-conditioners (instead of CFC-12).

The company has installed an Incinerator facility at its plant to ensure environmentally safe solid waste disposal. IMC has also planted thousands of trees at its plant and developed a garden zone of over 64,000 sq. meters. The company launched an environmental initiative for the preservation of Lake Saiful Muluk, with the purpose of cleaning up its surroundings and educating local people and businesses in keeping the area clean and beautiful.

HEALTH

GIVING NEW LEASE OF LIFE

Indus Motor Company is mindful of its responsibility towards disadvantaged communities and we strive to support poor and needy patients through medical institutions.

IMC is a regular donor to a number of hospitals, blood banks and health care institutions in Pakistan who provide life-care and health-care services to poverty-stricken people, so that they can meet their catastrophic medical needs.

Our regular beneficiaries include Indus Hospital, Shaukat Khanam Cancer Hospital, and AKUH.

NATURAL CALAMITIES

CARING FOR OUR COUNTRY

For over two decades, the Indus Motor Company has been engaged in business as a good Corporate Citizen of Pakistan. During this time we have integrated ourselves into the very fabric of this land, and we hold it as a duty to sustain the environment and the people amongst whom we are working.

This is why IMC is at the forefront, actively engaged in providing assistance whenever the country has faced a humanitarian emergency or natural calamity. We have made it a priority to support victims at the time of their distress by providing necessary support.

We are committed to caring for and enriching society, which is why we are driven to respond whenever humanitarian emergencies or natural calamities have disrupted the customary social order.

Not just for any emergency or natural calamity in Pakistan, but IMC is actively involved in providing support for the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan together in March 2011.

ROAD SAFETY

IGNITING SAFE DRIVING SENSE

Being at the very forefront in the automobile industry in Pakistan, Indus Motor Company has a direct interest in road safety initiatives. We feel a measure of responsibility for all our vehicles that are in use throughout the country, and we are concerned with the safety of not just the individuals driving our vehicles, but all the people that they are coming into contact with on the roads as well.

As such, our road safety initiatives are designed to create awareness in society of this important area, reduce traffic accidents and help create a safe environment for all road users. IMC has assumed a leadership position in the area of Road Safety and is a pioneer in undertaking several research projects to address this issue.

We are particularly proud of our work with the Road Traffic Injury Research Project (RTIRP), which is being acknowledged at the highest level. The project now has the patronage of the United Nations through World Health Organization and Government of Pakistan.

Recently, we have initiated the “Toyota – Research on Traffic Congestion” (T-RTC) a research project being undertaken in collaboration with NED University of Engineering & Technology, a leading engineering institution in Pakistan. The project comprises three multifaceted phases and the objective of the study is to quantify the economic cost of traffic congestion and socio-economic impact on the overall economy, such as cost of doing business, environment, society, health and human behavior. The study will help in making a case for the government to improve Road Engineering in order to provide better/safe environment.

NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES

HELPING TO LIVE BETTER LIVES

The Indus Motor Company directly employs more than 2,000 people, but our real community is much larger still.

IMC takes a keen and active interest in the welfare of the communities that are in the immediate vicinity of its plant and facilities, as we see these communities as our neighbors. It has adopted several villages around its manufacturing unit at Port Qasim. Through integrating various social uplift programs, the company aims at meeting basic needs in three broad areas – Health (a healing touch), Education (igniting minds) and Livelihoods (infusing self-dependence). Our involvement becomes all the more necessary since a large part of these settlements are comprised of underprivileged people.

IMC is involved in working to uplift these communities and to bring betterment and greater opportunity to the future generations in these circles, with activities that range from distribution of food, provision of medical facilities to long-term opportunities and channeling of youth through development and sports initiatives.
